How the West Bromwich Albion transfer saga unfolded

The Baggies have been without captain Chris Brunt since May 21.

The 23-year-old was unavailable for the start of the season because of a knee injury.

Brunt has been in the England squad but he has only made three appearances for the Baggies.

The club has also missed the return of midfielder Matt Smith, who missed the first three games with an injury.

West Brom manager Tony Pulis says the club is confident in the squad it has put together.

“We’ve got a squad that we feel is a really good one and that we’ll be able to get through the season,” he said.

“The last couple of weeks I’ve been really, really positive about how we’re doing.”

We have a squad, we have a group of players that have played together before, we’re just going to work hard and keep improving.

“West Brom’s latest defeat saw them drop to 14th in the Premier League table, nine points behind leaders Manchester City.
